With the monsoon season approaching, the Palampur sub-divisional administration has stepped up preparations to tackle emergencies caused by heavy rainfall and natural disasters.

Chairing a review meeting on monsoon preparedness on Wednesday, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Dr OP Yadav instructed officials to submit detailed reports on the arrangements made by their respective departments. The SDM noted that landslides, road blockages, flash floods and disruptions to essential services were common during the monsoon, making it imperative for departments to keep machinery, equipment and manpower ready for immediate deployment.

Dr Yadav announced that a dedicated control room would be set up during the monsoon period. Its emergency contact number would be widely publicised to enable residents to report incidents and seek assistance without delay. He directed the Police Department, Fire Services and Home Guards to remain prepared for rescue and relief operations.

The Forest Department was instructed to identify and remove vulnerable trees that could pose a threat during storms and heavy rainfall. The Health Department was asked to maintain adequate stocks of essential medicines, while the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department was directed to ensure the uninterrupted availability and proper storage of essential commodities.

Senior officials, including Municipal Corporation Joint Commissioner Ramesh Kumar, attended the meeting.
