Taking a strict view of negligence in election-related work, Sohna Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and Electoral Registration Officer Akhilesh Yadav has directed the registration of FIRs against 10 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for allegedly refusing to perform duties assigned under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 exercise of electoral rolls.
According to official sources, the employees, who had been appointed as BLOs from various government departments, failed to discharge responsibilities assigned by the Election Office. While some reportedly refused to take charge of their election duties, others did not report to the Election Office despite repeated directions.
In a letter issued to the Sohna SHO, the SDM instructed that legal action be initiated against the employees for non-compliance with election-related orders and dereliction of duty.
Officials termed the conduct a serious lapse that could hamper the smooth implementation of the ongoing voter list revision process.
The SIR exercise is a key electoral activity undertaken to update and verify voter rolls ahead of future elections. BLOs play a crucial role in the process by conducting field verification, collecting voter information and ensuring the accuracy of electoral records.
SDM Akhilesh Yadav said election-related work forms the foundation of the democratic process and any negligence in carrying out such responsibilities would not be tolerated. He emphasised that every officer and employee assigned election duties is obligated to perform them sincerely and within the stipulated timelines.
“Election duties are statutory responsibilities. Any employee who ignores official orders or refuses to perform assigned work will face strict action as per the law,” Yadav said.
The administration has reiterated that there will be zero tolerance for lapses during the SIR 2026 campaign and warned all officials engaged in the exercise to ensure full compliance with instructions. Authorities said the action has been initiated to safeguard the integrity, transparency and smooth conduct of the electoral revision process in the Sohna Assembly constituency.
