The results of the Panchayati Raj Institutions by-elections, which were conducted peacefully on Sunday morning in the district, were declared late in the evening. The by-elections were held for multiple posts, including Zila Parishad member from Ward 10, sarpanch posts in Sarwan Majra, Risalwa, and Kunjpura villages, and the panch post in Agondh village. However, the result for the sarpanch post in Kunjpura village has not been declared due to directions from the High Court.

Giving details, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Dr Anand Kumar Sharma confirmed that polling across the district remained free, fair and incident‑free, with tight monitoring by the administration and police.

In the election of Zila Parishad Ward 10 member, Pal Singh won by a margin of 384 votes. Out of 35,455 registered voters, 14,656 cast their ballots, recording a turnout of 41.34%. Counting was held at the Panchayat Bhavan, Karnal, said the DC.

Anu Rani has been elected as sarpanch of Sarwan Majra village after defeating her nearest rival by 538 votes. Meena Kumari has won the sarpanch seat of Risalwa village with 349 votes, while Renu Devi won the post of member of panchayat of Agondh village by 43 votes, he said, adding that counting for the sarpanch by-election remains pending, as per High Court directions. Three women candidates are in the fray, with results expected once legal directions are cleared.

Earlier, DC Dr Sharma, and Superintendent of Police Narender Bijarniya, inspected polling stations to ensure smooth conduct.
