Additional District and Sessions Judge Kapil Sharma has convicted Manish, a resident of Ward 9 of Devinagar, Paonta Sahib, in the Suraj murder case and sentenced him to life imprisonment under sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the accused. Deputy District Attorney Jatinder Sharma said that on August 4, 2021, Lakshmi, a resident of Madrasi Colony No. 15, Dehradun Railway Station Rest Camp in Dehradun, had lodged a complaint regarding her son Suraj having gone missing.

Suraj had been living in Devisnagar along with his wife Daya and his children, and went missing around 4 pm on July 27, 2021. Later, his body was recovered from the banks of the Yamuna at Chhachhrauli in Yamunanagar on July 29, 2021. During investigation, the police found that Manish allegedly harboured ill intentions for Daya, leading to several disputes.

The prosecution presented the statements of 22 witnesses before the court. Deputy District Attorney Jatinder Sharma argued the case.
