PAPAR: Police have arrested a 57-year-old who allegedly raped his 12-year-old niece by the roadside near Kampung Langsat, here.
District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said a team from the Papar Criminal Investigation Department (CID), responding to information, conducted a raid on a village house at 2pm.
He said the man was detained and several clothes as well as the suspect’s vehicle were seized.
“The suspect picked up the victim from school before raping her in his car by the roadside near Kampung Langsat. He then sent the girl back home,” he added.
Kamaruddin said the victim was referred to the Sabah Women and Children’s Hospital in Likas for a medical check-up.
The suspect, who is a brother of the victim’s father, was detained under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code for rape and has been remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations, he added.
Kamaruddin said the victim’s mother became suspicious when the victim refused to be sent to school by her uncle after revealing that she had been raped by him in August.
The victim’s mother then lodged a police report at the Papar police headquarters on Thursday.
