The Association of Malaysian Umrah and Hajj Travel Agencies (PAPUH) is urging Malaysians to be careful when they come across unusually cheap umrah packages, saying travellers should take a closer look at offers priced between RM3,000 and RM4,000.
PAPUH deputy president Dr Fathir Alhadad Badri said a return flight alone currently costs around RM3,600 to RM4,000, and consumers should look at what’s included in a package instead of comparing prices alone.
“If someone is offering an umrah package for RM3,000 or RM4,000 when the airfare already costs around that much, people should ask how the package can realistically be offered,” he said.
Fathir also encouraged travellers to check whether a travel agency is licensed and able to provide the services it promises . While promotional offers are common in the industry, he said consumers should understand the difference between a genuine promotion and a price that may not reflect the cost of providing the trip.
Compare Different Packages Before Booking
PAPUH said that’s one reason it is organising the Muslim Travel Fair 2026. If you’ve been to the MATTA Fair before, the concept is similar. Visitors can compare packages from different agencies, speak directly with travel agencies and see what’s included in each package before choosing one. While planning your trip, it’s also worth comparing your travel insurance before you travel, as coverage can vary between policies.
The three-day fair will take place from 31 July to 2 August at Kompleks PKNS Shah Alam, bringing together 56 participating companies, including 52 umrah travel agencies, as well as airlines, financial institutions and other travel-related businesses.
PAPUH said agencies taking part have to meet its service and industry requirements before joining the fair.
Muhammad Mursyid Abu Hassan, deputy chairman of the carnival organising committee, also encouraged travellers to look beyond the package price and consider an agency’s track record as well.
