Malaysia is known for its crazy mix of multiracial cuisines that everyone loves, and some cities definitely steal the spotlight when it comes to food.

Well, according to Tatler, Ipoh just snagged the 2nd spot on the list of Asia’s most underrated foodie cities!

“Ipoh is a dream destination for food lovers”

While Ipoh might not get as much attention as Penang or Kuala Lumpur, Tatler calls it a “dream destination for food lovers” who appreciate slow-cooked flavours and old-world charm.

Sure, it’s famous for its sweet and creamy white coffee, but Ipoh is also a paradise for noodle lovers.

Dishes like kai si hor fun (silky rice noodles in chicken and prawn broth) and salt-baked chicken that’s marinated in Chinese herbs and baked in rock salt for an ultra-tender bite are definitely crowd pullers.

And let’s not forget the tau fu fah, a silky soybean pudding that locals absolutely love!

Fukuoka crowned the most underrated foodie city

Meanwhile, other spots in Asia include Fukuoka, Japan, which takes the top spot, famous for its Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen where pork bones are simmered for hours to create a rich, creamy, and umami-packed broth.

Coming in 3rd is Hue, Vietnam, known for its elegant royal cuisine, featuring delicate, bite-sized dishes once served to emperors.

Other cities that made the list are Iloilo, Philippines in 4th place, Gwangju, South Korea in 5th, Hualien, Taiwan in 6th, Surabaya, Indonesia in 7th, and finally, Luang Prabang, Laos.
