Paraguay captain Gustavo Gómez is heading into the World Cup round of 32 match against Germany on Monday with plenty of confidence and belief.
“We are back to compete, and we will fight until the end. We have brought Paraguay to the world stage!”, the 33-year-old wrote on Instagram. “It is not over yet.”
Paraguay is at the World Cup for the first time since 2010 and reached the knock-outs as one of the eight best third-placed teams.
Their only previous match against Germany at the tournament was in 2002, with Germany claiming a late 1-0 victory in the round of 16.
“When we look back, only we know the difficulties we overcame along the way. It were hard years, but today we are here and fighting with our soul to keep our country’s name at the top,” defender Gómez said emphatically.
If a Paraguayan believes, nothing is impossible, he said, concluding: “TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER!"
