MANILA, Philippines — The Parañaque City government is investigating one of its employees following an alleged road-rage incident involving a woman driver who claimed she was followed to the gate of her subdivision after overtaking a vehicle.
In a statement on Tuesday, Oct. 13, the city government said that the employee had been identified and directed to submit a written explanation as authorities determine whether administrative charges are warranted.
“The City does not tolerate conduct unbecoming of a public servant, on or off duty,” the statement read, citing Republic Act No. 6713, which requires government employees to act with courtesy, restraint and respect toward the public.
The incident came to public attention after the woman driver recounted her experience in a social media post published early Sunday, Oct. 11.
“This driver followed me up to the gate of our subdivision just because I overtook his car,” she wrote in Filipino and English, describing how the driver allegedly pursued her.
She claimed the driver repeatedly honked the vehicle's horn and flashed its high-beam headlights while following her.
She also questioned the driver's conduct, noting that she believed the person was a government employee.
Parañaque City said that the administrative investigation would proceed in accordance with Civil Service rules and due process.
“We thank the public for their vigilance and ask for patience while the process runs its course,” the city government said, adding that further updates would be issued as appropriate.
