The severely damaged surface of the Paror Bridge on the Pathankot-Mandi National Highway has become a major safety hazard, with deep potholes turning the busy highway stretch into a death trap for commuters.
Locals claim that numerous complaints have been submitted to NHAI officials, highlighting the urgent need for repairs. However, no meaningful action has been taken so far.
The bridge, located over the Neugal River near Paror, witnesses heavy traffic every day, including passenger vehicles, buses, trucks and tourists heading towards various destinations in Kangra district.
However, the worsening condition of the road surface has made commuting increasingly dangerous.
Residents and regular commuters allege that accidents have become a routine occurrence on the bridge.
Two-wheeler riders are particularly vulnerable as they often lose their balance while trying to avoid the deep craters on the road. Several motorists have sustained injuries in recent weeks, while many vehicles have suffered damage due to the poor condition of the bridge.
“The bridge has become extremely dangerous, especially during the night and rainy weather, when the potholes are difficult to spot. It is only a matter of time before a major tragedy occurs," said a resident.
Drivers of four-wheelers have also reported frequent tyre bursts, damaged wheel rims and suspension failures after their vehicles hit the potholes. Many have been forced to spend thousands of rupees on repairs due to the deteriorating road conditions.
