Participation tops 5,000 for Malaysia–China Friendship Run

Kota Kinabalu: More than 5,000 runners have registered for the Jom! Malaysia–China Friendship Run 2026, with main sponsor Hong Kong-based Luen Thai Group, parent company of Skechers, contributing 500 mystery-box gifts worth RM100,000 for the first 500 finishers.

Sabah Malaysia–China Friendship Association President Dr Oh Ei Sun, accompanied by Executive Vice President and Secretary-General Steven Liaw, recently met Luen Thai Group Vice Chairman and Skechers China, Korea and Southeast Asia Chief Executive Officer Willie Tan, where both reaffirmed the event's role in strengthening Malaysia–China friendship through sport.

Dr Oh said the response reflected strong public support for healthy living and Malaysia–China friendship, while thanking Skechers and Luen Thai Group for their continued support in expanding the event's scale and influence.

Tan said the run had become one of Sabah's leading mass-participation events, promoting healthy lifestyles while strengthening people-to-people ties between Malaysia and China.

The seven-kilometre run starts at 6am on July 26 at Padang Merdeka, with participants receiving race packs and competing for lucky draw prizes worth more than RM43,000, including a one-year supply of running shoes worth RM5,508.
