The following analysis is based on number of seats obtained by individual parties in GE15 compared with how all fared in GE14. You'll see from the results that the government led by Anwar Ibrahim is not a "Unity" government as envisaged because two of the star performers have opted to stay out of the ruling coalition.

In fact, you'll realise that BERSATU and PAS did extremely well in the recent elections compared with their performance in GE14 but unfortunately chose to stay out of the "Unity" government as envisaged by the King.

The numbers are as follows:

Seats held by BERSATU in Parliament increased from 13 to 28; an improvement of 86.6%.

BERSATU: GE14 = 13 | GE15 = 28 (+15) 86.6% UP

On the other hand, PAS did even better showing an increase of 172% with 49 seats in this election compared with a mere 18 in GE14.

PAS: GE14 = 18 | GE15 = 49 (+31) 172% UP

Another party that really showed great improvement and chose to join the government of the day is GPS which obtained 23 seats in GE15 compared with 18 in the previous elections; an increase of 27.7%.

However, with the exception of GPS all other parties that are in the government did not perform as well as the other three parties above. In fact, they recorded less number of seats captured this time around compared with what they did in the last election.

WARISAN is the worse in the group losing more than half of its seats won in GE14 followed by PKR with 40% down reporting a loss of 20.

WARISAN GE14 = 8 | GE15 = 3 (-5) 62.5% DOWN

PKR GE14 = 50 | GE15 = 30 (-20) 40% DOWN

Another partner of Pakatan Harapan, Amanah which lost 3 seats, down 27% from last election.

AMANAH GE14 = 11 | GE15 = 8 (-3) 27% DOWN

Lastly there's DAP which lost 2 of its seat won in GE14, 4.7% down.

DAP GE14 = 42 | GE15 = 40 (-2) 4.7% DOWN

But then again there is UMNO the self-declared "King Maker" of the current government that lost 27 of its 53 seats, down by 51% and is still boastful of its ability to help make Anwar Ibrahim the 10th Prime Minister and indirectly allows Pakatan Harapan an opportunity to form a government for the second time.

UMNO GE14 = 53 | GE15 = 26 (-27) 51% DOWN

MCA and MIC showed no improvement by holding on to the same number of seats captured in GE14 just managing to stay afloat.

In contrast, PEJUANG is dead and buried not winning a single seat and from what we heard all candidates even lost their deposits.

In sum, the Report Card shows that overall two top performers in this election are PAS and BERSATU followed by GPS as a close third.

PAS in fact is the shining star in terms of the number of seats won in this election. It did better than DAP which is the main party behind the ruling coalition headed by Anwar Ibrahim which led to one politician concluding that this is not an all encompassing unity government but a PH government because a large segment of representatives elected by the people are on the outside looking in!

But Pakatan Harapan as a coalition of PKR, DAP and Amanah has the edge and clinched the leadership of the three with additional support from GPS and a few other smaller parties.

However, without UMNO's support, PH could not have formed the government.

Thus making UMNO a kingmaker of sorts but the government is still a PH government because two of the better performers representing a large segment of the population are not part of the ruling coalition.

"Anwar became prime minister not with the support of the majority, but through political arrangements with BN despite his campaign promise to the people that he would not join forces with BN which is embroiled in scandals and corruption." (MalaysiaNow)

Now you see why it is not quite a "unity government" as envisaged by the King!
