KOTA BHARU – Pas confirms it will attend the Umno General Assembly (PAU) 2026 at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTC KL), scheduled from Sept 9 to 12.
Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said the party had only received the official invitation from Umno on Tuesday, through a letter dated Aug 28, to attend the opening ceremony of the assembly.
He said the invitation was addressed to the Pas president, secretary-general and two other representatives from the party.
"I confirm that we will have representatives. I myself will attend the event," he said while attending the final preparation meeting for the 72nd Pas Annual Muktamar at the Kelantan Islamic Education Centre (Putik) here on Tuesday.
Earlier, Umno had extended an official invitation to the Pas top leadership to attend PAU 2026, scheduled from Sept 9 to 12.
Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the decision was made as a gesture of respect and to reciprocate the invitation from the party led by Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang to attend the Pas Annual Muktamar in Kelantan.
However, Takiyuddin said the attendance of the Pas president had yet to be confirmed and would depend on his health condition.
"If Tok Guru (Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang) does not go, there will be a representative. The deputy president or whoever will represent the president," he said.
He said two other Pas leaders would also attend, although the names of the additional representatives had yet to be finalised.
