KUALA LUMPUR – Following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's announcement of his resignation as the leader of Perikatan Nasional (PN), PAS has offered to take over the helm of the coalition.
In a statement released on Tuesday, PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan expressed the need to strengthen PN and called on all parties to reflect on recent developments within the coalition.
“We must take all steps to further strengthen the people’s trust in Perikatan. PAS hereby offers its willingness to lead Perikatan, to strengthen, organise and prepare for the state elections and the 16th General Election,” Takiyuddin said.
The statement also reaffirmed PAS's commitment to upholding the rule of law, democratic principles, the constitutional monarchy, and the guidance of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, in the interests of the state and its people.
PAS has also made clear its position regarding the government of Perlis. It remains committed to continuing its involvement in the state government in line with the mandate received during the 15th General Election. However, PAS will not participate in the new state executive council (EXCO) that will be formed by the new Menteri Besar of Perlis.
All current PAS EXCO members will relinquish their positions in solidarity with the resignation of the former Menteri Besar.
“We urge all parties to reflect and learn from what has happened, and take all necessary steps to further strengthen the people’s trust in Perikatan Nasional,” Takiyuddin added. “PAS also offers its readiness to lead PN in order to empower the organisation and prepare for the state elections and the upcoming 16th General Election.”
He also reiterated the party’s unwavering commitment to respecting the rule of law, democratic principles, the constitutional monarchy, and the wisdom of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, for the well-being of the state and its people. - December 30, 2025
