TUMPAT - Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS), through Perikatan Nasional (PN), is seeking an understanding with Barisan Nasional (BN) for upcoming state elections in Johor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka, citing a political threat it described as “dangerous”.
PAS Deputy Mursyidul Am Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the approach was taken by party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang after assessing the current political landscape and recognising the need for greater cooperation among Malay-Muslim political parties.
“This danger cannot be confronted unless Muslims, Islamic parties and Malay-Muslims come together to halt the rise or advance of the enemies of Islam.
“In the context of a democratic nation, if we cannot unite the Muslim community and these Malay-Muslim parties, we may not be able to defend the strength of Islam itself,” he said.
He was speaking at the launch of the Tumpat PAS election machinery in Kampung Sedar here on Friday.
Also present was PAS Vice-President Datuk Idris Ahmad, who officially launched the election machinery.
Ahmad said PAS needed alliances, cooperation and mutual understanding to confront what it viewed as dangerous political elements, while pursuing an approach that posed the least harm.
“If there is no awareness among Muslims and Malay-Muslim parties, we might end up in a situation that is deeply detrimental to us,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ahmad urged the PAS election machinery to intensify preparations for the 16th General Election (GE16), which he said could be held at any time.
“I am confident that everyone at the constituency level has made preparations for this journey.
“Every machinery unit must ensure that preparations are made more thoroughly so that the party can approach GE16 in a more organised manner,” he said.
