JOHOR BAHRU — Pas’ stance could change at any time depending on how its president, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, interprets matters, says former Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
He said this was the dilemma facing Umno, which could pose a major risk to the party in the 16th General Election (GE16).
According to him, working with Pas would not be easy.
“Abdul Hadi said Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar in a statement stated that Bersatu is still a member of PN based on what is stipulated in the PN Constitution.
“But to Abdul Hadi, Bersatu is no longer part of PN based on the party’s action,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Puad said based on Abdul Hadi’s interpretation, Bersatu was going against its own coalition (PN) in Negeri Sembilan.
“Make of that what you will. So, does Pas follow the constitution or its interpretation?” he asked in the post.
Mohd Puad’s statement came after Abdul Hadi questioned Bersatu’s decision to contest against PN in the Negeri Sembilan state election.
He was responding to differing views between Abdul Hadi and Samsuri over Bersatu’s membership status in the coalition.
Earlier, Abdul Hadi claimed that Bersatu’s membership in PN had automatically lapsed following Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s announcement of plans to form a new political coalition.
However, Samsuri was reported to have said that Bersatu’s position in PN remained unchanged despite claims that the party’s membership had ended following the proposed formation of the new coalition.
