PAS will decide on taking over the parliamentary opposition leader post and the new PN chairman in key meetings this Sunday, president Abdul Hadi Awang says.

MARANG: The PAS Central Committee will deliberate on whether the party should assume the parliamentary opposition leader position this Sunday.

President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang confirmed the meeting will also discuss the Perikatan Nasional chairmanship.

He stated the party has not yet decided on the opposition leader role following Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin’s expulsion from Bersatu.

“We will discuss this in the PAS meeting,” Abdul Hadi told reporters after a lecture at Masjid Rusila.

He added the meeting would be held this Sunday and include discussions on the PN chairmanship.

An extraordinary PN meeting is scheduled for the same day at the PAS headquarters.

This meeting aims to appoint a new coalition chairman to replace Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin announced his resignation effective January 1.

Abdul Hadi declined to comment on whether Hamzah would join PAS.

He acknowledged separate meetings with both Muhyiddin and Hamzah recently.

“Everyone has met me. Hamzah came to see me, and Muhyiddin did too… each had their own arguments. I listened to both sides,” he said.

Bersatu expelled Hamzah last week for breaching the party’s constitution.

The party’s Disciplinary Board made the decision under Clause 22.5.

Secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali stated Hamzah breached Clause 9.1.4.
