PERIKATAN Nasional is set to hold discussions on the position of Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as opposition leader following his recent sacking from Bersatu, Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man confirmed.
“The matter will be discussed soon,” said Tuan Ibrahim, the Kubang Kerian MP, as reported by Utusan Malaysia, adding that the dialogue would involve all opposition members of parliament.
Hamzah, the Larut MP, was removed from Bersatu earlier this week after being accused of launching attacks against party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
He was not the only senior leader affected; a total of 16 other party figures were also dismissed, including MPs Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal of Machang, Azahari Hasan of Padang Rengas, and Fathul Huzir Ayob of Gerik.
While Tuan Ibrahim emphasised that Pas does not interfere in the internal affairs of other political parties, he acknowledged that the party is closely monitoring the developments due to its relationship with Bersatu. “We are concerned about our ties with Bersatu following the dismissal of key leaders,” he said.
The forthcoming discussions within Perikatan Nasional are expected to clarify the coalition’s leadership stance and its strategy for maintaining cohesion among opposition MPs in the wake of Bersatu’s high-profile internal shake-up. - February 15, 2025
