KUALA LUMPUR – Discussions on cooperation between Pas and Umno for the Melaka state election are believed to be progressing better than those previously held in Johor and Negeri Sembilan.

Pas Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden said the confidence stemmed from the positive discussions between the two parties.

“Discussions on cooperation for the Melaka state election are still ongoing, and I feel they will be more positive than those in Negeri Sembilan and Johor.

“Insya-Allah, this will yield positive results in the 16th General Election (GE16),” he said when met after attending the 2026 Umno Youth General Assembly at the World Trade Centre (WTC) here on Thursday.

He was responding to questions on the progress of talks between the two sides ahead of the state election.

Meanwhile, when asked about Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh’s policy speech, which touched on unity, Afnan said he was pleased with the remarks.

He said Pas was also ready to respond to Akmal’s proposal to organise joint activities involving the youth wings of both parties.

Afnan said he would hold further discussions with the Umno Youth chief to work out the details of the initiative.

“We welcome the hand extended to build unity, and I am pleased that the Umno Youth chief mentioned and responded to the call for unity in his policy speech, with both sides moving together towards a united movement.

“Insya-Allah, we will sit down together to discuss in greater detail how to organise activities aimed at fostering unity,” he said.
