Johor’s Pasir Gudang Highway widening project enters final phase, aiming to reduce congestion by 2028.

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Pasir Gudang Highway widening project has entered its final phase and is set to complete the overall upgrade of the 29.5-kilometre stretch, the Johor State Legislative Assembly sitting was told today.

State Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the Phase Three project, with an allocation of about RM174 million, has been implemented since last December and is expected to be completed in about three years.

“This improvement is expected to help reduce congestion, as well as enhance the level of safety and comfort for road users,” he said during the winding-up session at Bangunan Sultan Ismail here today.

He was previously reported to have said that the Pasir Gudang Highway stretches from the Perling Toll to the Pasir Gudang Interchange, with the widening works implemented in phases since 2012.

According to Mohamad Fazli, the completion of Phase Three of the project is expected to resolve congestion caused by bottlenecks along the highway, with six two-way lanes to be in place by 2028.

In another development, he said Johor had received 21 flood mitigation projects worth a total of RM2.4 billion between 2022 and 2025.

He said some of the projects are expected to be completed by 2027, and if implemented as scheduled, they would help resolve long-standing flooding issues in Segamat, Batu Pahat, Muar, Kota Tinggi and Kluang.

Meanwhile, Mohamad Fazli said the state government had received raw water supply projects worth RM1.7 billion during the same period, some of which were implemented to increase water source capacity.

He said the projects included the Raw Water Transmission Project from Sungai Sedili Besar to Sungai Gembut, which has achieved 3.59 per cent progress and is expected to be completed in October 2027, as well as the High-Risk Dam Upgrading and Repair Project, which has recorded 75 per cent progress and is expected to be completed in July next year.
