A Mohali court sentenced Seema alias Rano, 57, a resident of Sher Majra, Patiala, to five-year rigorous imprisonment and slapped a Rs 10,000 fìne for cutting a gold bangle of a Phase-5 woman in a 2022 snatching and hurt case.

Another suspect, Debo alias Natho, 82, a resident of Sher Majra died during the trial and proceedings were abated in May 14, 2026.

A case under sections 379-B(2), 411, 413, 199 and 201 of IPC was registered at City Kharar police station on March 12,2022.

On March 12, 2022, the police were present at the Kharar bus stand, where auto driver Pardeep Kumar disclosed that some women had cut the bangle of Karamjit Kaur, a retired government servant and resident of Phase 5, when she boarded a bus at the bus stand. The accused women were apprehended at the spot.

The complainant stated that while she was travelling from Kharar to Mukerian by bus, 4–5 women surrounded her. One of the women cut and removed the bangle from her right hand. The complainant immediately caught hold of the said woman at the spot, while her 3-4 accomplices attempted to flee. One of the accomplices was apprehended by the complainant’s husband with the help of people. The complainant’s bangle was recovered from the accused woman.
