Patiala defeated hosts Ludhiana by 82 runs on Sunday in the second Group D match of the Punjab State Inter-District Senior Women’s One Day Limited Overs Cricket Tournament.

Chasing 228, Ludhiana fell well short and could only manage 149 runs for the loss of five wickets in their allotted quota of overs.

The match was played at the GRD Academy ground on Hambran Road here.

Opting to bat first, Patiala posted a competitive 227 for 7 in 50 overs, courtesy a solid batting display led by Vanshika Mahajan. She anchored the innings with a well-crafted 78 off 127 balls, striking 10 fours and a six. She received excellent support from Priya Kumari, who scored 65 runs — including nine boundaries. Anjali provided late impetus with a brisk 41 off just 32 deliveries.

For Ludhiana, Parineeta Saroha was the most successful bowler, returning figures of three for 32. Samriddhi Saini claimed two scalps for 46 and Moli Gosal sent two batters home, conceding 62 runs in her quota of overs.

In reply, Ludhiana struggled to keep pace with the required run rate as Patiala bowlers kept the hosts under pressure throughout.

Divya Rajput fought hard and top scored with 46 runs. However, none of the Ludhiana batters could convert their starts.

Patiala’s bowlers shared the spoils, with Shruti producing an impressive spell of three for 19 in 10 overs. Disha Rani chipped in with two for 10 and all-rounder Priya Kumari returned figures of two for 37. Mannat Kashyap claimed a solitary wicket for 13 runs in her 10 overs.

Ludhiana will look to bounce back when they host Mansa on June 11.
