In conjunction with National Day & Malaysia Day celebrations, a patriotic exhibition of the National Monument (Tugu Negara) is displayed at the center of IOI City Mall Putrajaya which attracted children and shoppers both Malaysians and international tourists. The National Monument dedicated to those who died in Malaysia's struggle for freedom during World War II & the Malayan Emergency during 1948 until 1960. It is a historic sculpture of 15 meter high bronze statue on a low hill overlooking the Kuala Lumpur (KL) Lake Gardens. It holds a deeply significant place in the hearts of each and every Malaysians. This National Monument serves as a remembrance of the bravery, courage and unity of the fighters who laid down their lives for Malaysia's independence. Each of the seven bronze figures in the Monument represents a certain quality: Courage, sacrifice, leadership, suffering, strength, unity, and vigilance. The topmost central figure grips the Malaysian flag, flanked by a soldier with a machine gun while the figure on his right bears a rifle and a bayonet. The other four soldiers tending to their wounded compatriots. It is commissioned in 1963 and constructed in 1966 designed by Austrian sculptor Felix de Weldon. (https;//www.tourism.gov.my)
It is most appropriate opportunity for IOI City Mall Putrajaya to display this patriotic exhibition that will encourage children and shoppers to visit the actual National Monument and stroll through one of KL city's most renowned parks. Lake Gardens is a 92-hectare beauty of fresh greenery and lively vegetation.
Whereas, the National Heroes Square (Dataran Pahlawan Negara) is both a monument and war memorial in Putrajaya located at Precinct 1 has replaced the existing National Monument as a venue for the annual Warriors Day (Hari Pahlawan).
