
The Department of Apparel and Textile Science, PAU, today observed the National Textiles Day with great enthusiasm and cultural vibrancy, highlighting the rich and diverse textile heritage of India. The event was a visual delight as traditional textiles from various Indian states were beautifully showcased, reflecting the intricate craftsmanship and timeless artistry embedded in the country’s textile traditions.
The celebrations were presided over by Vice-Chancellor, PAU, Satbir Singh Gosal. The event was graced by Director Research, AS Dhutt, Director Extension Education MS Bhullar; Dean Post Graduate Studies VS Hans and Dean CoCSc,Kiran Bains. Faculty members from various other departments of PAU were also present on the occasion, along with retired faculty of the Department of Apparel and Textile Science.
Adding charm to the celebration, students of the department dressed elegantly in traditional costumes representing different regions of India. They captivated the audience with their confident presentations, offering insightful briefings on the unique textiles, techniques and craft traditions of respective states.
A significant highlight of the occasion was the inauguration of the department’s heritage room. This newly established space will function as a design centre for students, providing them with a dedicated platform to draw inspiration from traditional textiles and develop innovative designs rooted in heritage.
Harminder Kaur Saini, head of the department, congratulated the faculty and students of the department for their dedicated efforts in making the event a grand success.
