Working from home has quite a number of benefits for the employers and employees, including less time spent on commute and an increase in productivity.

While the Malaysian Employers’ Federation (MEF) suggested that work-from-home employees should get their salaries cut, a survey found that bosses have been urged to “pay extra” and “pay more” to their staff who work from home.

In a Newswav poll asking “Do you agree with the MEF’s statement on how employees should be paid less if they choose to Work From Home?” 65.92% out of nearly 7,000 respondents chose “No,” indicating that they disagreed with the employers’ association.

Those who indicated as such also noted that work from home employees ought to be “paid extra” to compensate for using their own electricity, Internet and other utilities at home.

Some said that bosses should feel “lucky” that people are still working productively, sometimes even more so, despite the global pandemic.

Those who are on the fence (12.94%) said that it depends on staff productivity, while 21.14% voted “yes,” and seemed to agree with salary cuts for WFH staff.
