KUCHING (May 9): Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) will begin rolling out a series of zonal conventions across Sarawak from July as part of efforts to strengthen party unity and grassroots mobilisation, said PBB Secretary-General Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said the matter was among key directives issued by Premier and PBB president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the party’s Supreme Council meeting held at its headquarters here.

“The southern zone convention will be led by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, while the Betong zone convention will be led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

“As for the central zone convention, it will be led by myself and the northern zone convention will be led by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan,” he told a press conference after the meeting.

The Works Minister added that the series of conventions could possibly extend into September.

“The conventions aim to bring together party members at the grassroots level together,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, Nanta said the main coordinating committee for the four zonal conventions will be chaired by Uggah, adding that details including the sequence of the conventions, dates, and official theme have yet to be finalised.

“We will begin in July. The dates have not yet been fixed,” he said.

He also revealed that PBB currently has about 396,000 members statewide, underscoring the party’s strong influence across Sarawak.
