RANAU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) must strengthen its position within Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and begin preparations for the 16th General Election (GE16) while remaining firm in the fight for Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement.
Its President Datuk Seri Joachim Gunsalam said the party would continue to stand with the State Government in pursuing the 40 per cent entitlement, which he described as Sabah’s constitutional right under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
He said the pursuit should be carried out through a moderate, prudent and effective approach, while maintaining political cooperation and stability.
“Although there are differences of opinion, cooperation and unity must remain the priority in strengthening the Government as well as improving the economy and wellbeing of the people,” he said at the Pledge, Thanksgiving and Certificate Presentation Ceremony for the PBS Kundasang Division committee members for the 2022-2026 term.
Joachim, who is also Kundasang Assemblyman, said PBS members must continue closing ranks to strengthen the party within GRS, communicate the Government’s development efforts to the people and prepare for GE16.
He reminded the new leadership that holding party positions was a responsibility rather than a means of advancing personal interests.
Joachim urged them to carry out their mandate with full responsibility and place the interests of the people and party above their own.
He also paid tribute to the previous leadership for their contributions and sacrifices, saying he was proud to see a new generation stepping forward to continue the struggle pioneered by veteran PBS members.
The continuity between the older and younger generations, he said, was important to ensure PBS Kundasang remained strong and relevant to the people it served.
Joachim called on members to remain united as the party moves towards the next phase of its political struggle, both in Kundasang and at State level.
“As long as the struggle is not over, we will continue to fight,” he said.
