The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has issued a warning to vehicle owners in the country that do not adhere to the specified specs for their number plates in accordance with the Road Transport Act 1987.

In a statement, PDRM’s Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) asserted that Section 14 of the Road Transport Act 1987 compels road users to have their vehicle registration plates adhere to the specifications prescribed under the Act.

Accordingly, JSPT issued an infographic with the wrong and correct way to display your vehicle registration plates below:

The statement then warned vehicle owners in the country that should they not adhere to the given specs, action can be taken under Section 14(4) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Specifically, any individuals who commit an offence under the said provision will face a fine of between RM300 to RM3,000.

JSPT stressed that modifying your number plates not according to the given specs to the point that they are confusing and hard to read would have various implications. The more serious of which is if the vehicle is involved in a criminal case that requires identification of the number plate.

JSPT thus advises all road users to always follow the laws and rules without compromise.

So, what do you guys think of the reminder by JSPT? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
