The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has issued a reminder to all road users to adhere to the traffic laws in our country and highlights the regulations against stopping vehicles on zebra crossings.

Taking to Facebook, PDRM’s Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) asserted that the police launched the Op Pematuhan Peraturan Lalu Lintas or Traffic Regulations Enforcement Operation on Friday (28 July) that would be conducted nationwide.

One of the operations involves enforcing Rule 38 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 regarding the prohibition to stop vehicles on zebra crossings.

Accordingly, JSPT reminded road users in Malaysia that it is prohibited to stop their vehicles or any part of the vehicles within a zebra crossing unless they are forced to do so to avoid a road accident from happening or another vehicle beyond their control blocks them from moving out of the way.

Furthermore, JSPT asserted that those who commit this offence may face up to RM2,000 fine or up to 6 months imprisonment.

Road users are also reminded to obey all the traffic rules and not stop beyond the white line. This is to avoid traffic congestion from happening or worse, road accidents.
