An Indonesian man was recently arrested by PDRM in Ampang Jaya near the Melawati Mall area in KL on June 22 for carrying a bag of drugs.
He was spotted casually walking in broad daylight when the police stopped him and checked the canvas bag that he was carrying, in which 20 packs of methamphetamine were found.
Police estimated the entire bag to be around 20.85 KG, which amounts to around RM80,000.
The arrested Indonesian man is 50 years old and has been staying in Malaysia for approximately 10 years. He is a labourer and also tested positive for two drugs, namely methamphetamine and amphetamine. The suspect, however, has no criminal record and is currently under police custody for 7 days until June 29.
In the official police statement, Mohd Azam Bin Ismail, Ampang Jaya district police chief, said the matter is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. If found guilty, the suspect may face the death sentence or life imprisonment with no less than 12 strokes of the cane.
Azam also said that the amount of drugs found on the suspect alone could cater to over 20,000 drug addicts in Klang Valley.
In another concerning update, PDRM recently detected Fentanyl in Malaysia, which is also known as the “Zombie Drug”, which is 50 times more dangerous than heroin.
