According to Ipoh District Police Chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, the incident is believed to have taken place in the Pekan Baru area of Ipoh, Perak.

In a recent development, Sinar Harian reported that officers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have been deployed to track down the local man involved, who has since been identified.

Abang Zainal added that initial investigations found the incident occurred on 15 January, but the video was only uploaded and went viral on social media yesterday (5 February).

No police reports have been made so far

Abang Zainal said a closer review of the footage showed that the same individual also made an obscene gesture towards a bystander who had reprimanded him.

“Preliminary investigations found that the individual was inside a vehicle at the time the video was recorded and was holding a parang. While the machete was not used to directly threaten anyone, the act of holding it caused concern among members of the public who viewed the video,” he said.

He added that no police reports have been lodged so far in relation to the viral video.

“Investigations are ongoing, and we expect the case to be resolved soon,” he said.
