A Malaysian mother took to social media to express her frustration after discovering that her child had donated all his ‘duit Raya’ — a generous amount given by her and her husband—to the mosque’s donation box.
This has since sparked a debate among netizens, where a majority criticised the woman for slamming her child’s display of generosity.
Entire ‘duit Raya’ donated away
In a social media post, the woman said she had intentionally given her child a large sum of Duit Raya to test his ability to manage money responsibly.
However, she was disheartened to learn that the entire amount had been donated.
Today I casually asked abt their plans for the money. They said, ‘I already put it in tabung masjid‘.” she wrote.
“Unpopular opinion but this is peak Gen Z. Charity on others’ dime. They are still receiving weekly allowance.
“You’re supposed to help the poor. Not join them. So irresponsible. Time to get a job. Wake up and smell the bills kid,” she fumed.
