WORLD No. 2 Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah lifted the gloom in the Malaysian badminton camp by securing the first SEA Games badminton gold in Bangkok - ending a 10-year drought in the women's doubles today.

The sweet victory at the Thammasat University Gymnasium came after the duo defeated Indonesians, Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma and Meilysa Trias Puspitasari in a thrilling final.

Pearly-Thinaah were forced to work hard and were given stiff resistance by their opponents who were ranked 59th in the world.

However, experience was in the national pair's favour to secure victory through a three-set battle of 21-16, 19-21, 21-17.

The last time Malaysia won a gold medal in the event was at the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore.

This was from the pairing of Amelia Alicia Anscelly and Soong Fie Cho who defeated compatriots Vivian Hoo-Woon Khe Wei in the final. – December 14, 2025
