Pearly-Thinnah bow out of Paris 2024 Olympics

PEARLY Tan-M Thinaah bowed out of the Paris 2024 Olympics after losing to China’s world no. 1 pair Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan in the women’s doubles semifinals today.

Despite staging a comeback in the second set, the Malaysian duo were unable to spring an upset against the four-time world champions, losing 21-12 in the first set before going down in the rubber set 21-15.

During the quarter-finals at Porte de La Chapelle Arena yesterday, Pearly-Thinaah put up a brilliant performance to upset the 10th-ranked South Koreans Kim So Yeong-Kong Hee Yong, 21-12, 21-13 in 42 minutes.

Pearly-Thinaah had lost their first Group A match to Qing Chen-Yi Fan, but managed to turn their fortunes around with extraordinary victories over Japan’s Mayu Matsumoto-Wakana Nagahara and Indonesia’s Apriyani Rahayu-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti to survive the “group of death”. – August 2, 2024.
