Kota Kinabalu: A 41-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run while crossing the road near Sinsuran, along Jalan Razak, Sunday.

His body was noticed by a motorcyclist who alerted police to the 1.20am incident.

Police identified the man as Muhamad Azmi Atan, an unemployed from Putatan.

City police chief, ACP Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the cause of death was severe head injuries.

“Preliminary investigations found skid marks on the left of the two-lane road, believed to be from heavy braking.

“The vehicle type and licence plate number is still unknown,” he said, adding that there was a light drizzle at the time of the incident.

“Investigations would be conducted under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving causing death.

“Anyone with information are urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Muhammad Amirul Azri Zainal or the nearest police station,” Zaidi said.
