Penang’s state government has decided against implementing WFH for civil servants, citing no urgent need despite rising fuel costs.

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state government has decided not to implement work from home arrangements for its civil servants at this stage.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (pic) said the decision was made after considering there is no urgent need to do so currently.

“We feel it is not suitable for all types of work to be carried out from home and there is no pressing need,” he said at a press conference at Komtar.

This follows his statement last Friday that the state was studying WFH implementation due to rising fuel costs from the global energy crisis.

The matter was discussed at the state executive council meeting earlier today.

The federal government, however, is refining flexible working arrangements including WFH for civil servants.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced this on March 26 to mitigate the impact of global oil supply disruptions.
