NEW development projects in Penang can become exemplary habitats with proper planning, sustainable initiatives and strong healthcare services, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Unlike the past, where Penang suffered from high density in certain localities, Chow said that the new developments, such as the Andaman Island off Gurney Bay, are an important parcel, which, if done well, can stimulate the state's economy.
“Spanning 760 acres, this township development aligns closely with the aspirations of the Penang2030 vision. It reflects our goal of creating a greener, smarter, and more inclusive Penang for future generations. As Penang continues to grow, development must always be carried out responsibly and with long-term planning."
Chow said this after a site visit to the reclaimed island, which links Gurney Bay to Straits Quay in Tanjong Tokong through a highway stretch.
Andaman transforms Penang’s northern coastline into a dynamic township, he said.
Kok Tuck Cheong, the managing director of Eastern & Oriental Berhad (E&O), the master developer of the Andaman Island, said that it is not just a development project but a shared vision with the Penang government and, above all, a place for the people of Penang to experience and enjoy.
