KPDN confirms a licensed fisherman in a viral video legally purchased RON95 fuel within his quota, following a similar incident in Johor.

GEORGE TOWN: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has confirmed the man in a viral video filling a drum with RON95 petrol in Bayan Lepas committed no offence.

State director S Jegan said investigations revealed the individual is a licensed fisherman with a valid permit to purchase fuel within his established quota.

“Therefore, the fuel purchase complies with regulations and does not constitute any offence,” he said in a statement.

He explained that any fuel purchase exceeding 20 litres into a drum requires a special permit for scheduled controlled goods from KPDN.

Such permits are typically issued for specific uses like operating agricultural or fisheries machinery and are subject to set conditions.

Jegan warned that selling over 20 litres of fuel without a valid permit into containers other than a vehicle’s tank is an offence under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

He urged the public not to speculate or share inaccurate information, which could cause confusion.

The video, lasting about a minute, showed a man filling RON95 into several plastic drums in his car at a Penang petrol station.

It went viral on social media following a similar incident in Johor.
