GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 146 summonses for various offences under the Integrated Motorcycle Ops held in conjunction with the New Year celebrations at Lebuhraya Datuk Dr Lim Chong Eu (E-Gate) early this morning.

The state JPJ said 315 motorcycles were inspected under the operation, which was carried out with the assistance of the police, from 1 am to 5 pm.

“Of the motorcycles inspected, 110 riders were issued summonses for various offences, such as riding with a licence, expired road tax, no insurance coverage, fancy registration number plates and unauthorised motorcycle modifications.

“The operation aimed to ensure motorcyclists and pillion riders comply with the existing traffic laws and regulations and ensure they do not modify their machines for illegal racing or rempit activities,” the state JPJ said in a statement today.
