Penang police arrest four over mall slashing attack

Four suspects are remanded as police probe a violent assault at a Jalan Kelawai shopping mall, with investigations focusing on a possible business dispute.

GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested four individuals in connection with a violent attack at a shopping mall along Jalan Kelawai last Wednesday.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said two men and two women, aged between 29 and 40, have been remanded for four to five days to assist the probe.

“We believe the arrests will help solve the case,” Azizee said when contacted.

He added that police are still investigating the motive and have not ruled out the possibility that all suspects knew each other.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons.

Media reports stated the two male suspects, aged 29, are businessmen remanded until March 4.

A 40-year-old woman, who works as a company administrator, was remanded until March 3.

Police had earlier arrested a 38-year-old woman last Friday, who was also remanded for four days.

The incident is believed to have stemmed from a business dispute.

In the attack, a man sustained serious injuries after being slashed by another man at the mall.

The suspect then fled the scene on a motorcycle.
