GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested two men and seized various types of drugs worth RM271,400 in a raid on a house here.

Northeast district deputy police chief Superintendent Lee Swee Sake said the raid was conducted at 7.30pm on Monday by officers from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division.

Inspection of the residence uncovered a brown box containing 99 plastic packets of powder suspected to be MDMA, weighing approximately 1.77 kilogrammes.

Also found was one plastic packet of suspected ketamine, four packets of dried leaves believed to be marijuana, and one mixed-substance cigarette.

A Perodua Alza car, valued at approximately RM35,000, was also confiscated during the operation.

The total value of the drug seizure and asset confiscation is estimated at RM306,400.

Lee said intelligence revealed the suspects had been actively involved in drug distribution since February to meet local market demand.

He stated the total amount of seized drugs could be used by 974 addicts.

Both suspects tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and tetrahydrocannabinol.

A record check showed the first suspect had eight past drug-related records, while the other had two.

The suspects, aged 39 and 66, have been remanded for seven days until April 20 for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
