Penang police advise organisers of Merdeka convoys to inform authorities and follow traffic regulations to ensure road safety ahead of National Day celebrations.

NIBONG TEBAL: Penang police have advised organisers of convoys held in conjunction with the National Month celebrations to inform the authorities about their activities to obtain the police’s views and comply with traffic regulations to ensure the safety of all road users.

Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim said police did not prevent convoy activities, but participants must avoid dangerous or careless acts that could endanger themselves and other road users.

“Do not go overboard with the convoy as it could pose safety risks. Ensure traffic laws are properly observed for safety and that the vehicles are in good condition,” he said.

He told reporters this after flagging off the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Ipoh Superbiker’s Club (ISBC) Charity Motorcycle Convoy Programme in conjunction with the 69th National Day and 219th Police Day celebrations here today.

Also present was Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad, who represented Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail.

Lim said the advice was particularly relevant ahead of National Month celebrations, as the number of motorcycle and vehicle convoys was expected to increase as the public organised various activities in conjunction with National Day this month.
