THREE vehicles, including a trailer, caught fire in an accident under the Udini flyover, Jalan Masjid Negeri in Jelutong, Penang, this morning.
The incident, which occurred at about 7 am, also caused a major traffic congestion in the area.
Apart from the trailer, a car and a tour van were also destroyed in the incident.
Assistant Director of the Fire and Rescue Operations Division of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Penang, John Sagun Francis, said they received an emergency call at 7.04 am before a team of personnel from the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were rushed to the location.
According to him, the fire engine arrived at the location at 7.26 am, about six kilometres from the station.
“The fire involved three vehicles under the Udini underpass due to an accident. The victims involved have not yet been identified.
“The operation was successfully controlled at 7.33 am,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Penang City Council (MBPP) announced that it had deployed traffic wardens to the location to control traffic. – May 15, 2026
