A woman who hailed from Penang but resided in Perth, Australia, was allegedly murdered by her partner in a case of domestic violence.
She was identified as 28-year-old Tan Kar Ming, who reportedly attended a popular high school in Butterworth, according to China Press.
Tan was found unresponsive in a house on Taree St in St James at about 8.30pm on Aug 26 and was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital. Unfortunately, she didn’t survive.
Allegedly died due to assault
According to 7NEWS Australia, homicide detectives suspect that Tan’s partner, Younis Qambari, was behind the “extensive injuries which resulted in her death” during an assault that occurred several days before.
Police also alleged that Tan’s murder “occurred in the context of a family and domestic relationship”.
What made it even worse was the fact that Tan’s three children, aged 3, 5, and 7, were at home on the day she died.
“It sounds like a horrific situation and one that took place in the presence of children. Our thoughts go out to everyone impacted,” said Western Australia Premiere Roger Cook, as quoted by WAtoday.
Warning signs
Tan’s death has since left her family deeply distraught and heartbroken, with her twin sister telling 7NEWS Australia that she’s struggling to come to terms with the news.
She also revealed that the already horrific situation was further exacerbated by the fact that she lived nearby from Tan.
It was also reported that Tan’s family had called the police three months before her passing as they feared for her safety after they noticed injuries on her.
Fundraising
Following Tan’s death, her family launched a fundraising campaign, where as of today, a total of AUD58,261 (about RM171,000) have been raised so far.
This is to cover her children’s immediate living expenses, childcare, education costs, and daily necessities. The funds will also be used to provide some financial stability during a time of great uncertainty.
As for Tan’s partner, he was charged with murder and is currently in custody until he appears in court on Sept 16 for the next hearing.
