A WOMAN was found dead in her car, which was filled with various items, taking up all the space in the vehicle at a petrol station parking lot on Jalan Paya Terubong in Penang, last night.

The victim's death was discovered after police received information about a Perodua Myvi car that was locked from the inside before requesting assistance from the fire and rescue services department to open the car door.

Operations Commander of the Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Station, Khairul Annuar Mohd Rahim, said his department received a call for help at 7.48 pm.

"We had difficulty opening the car door due to the interior of the vehicle being filled with items.

"We managed to open the door after breaking the rear passenger window and found the victim in the driver's seat before handing the case over to the police for further action," he said.

It is understood that the police inspection found various items in the vehicle, including clothes, pillows, boxes, bags, food and an assortment of drugs.

However, further examination by the forensic team at the scene found no criminal elements.

The victim's body was then sent to the Penang Hospital for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, the victim's mother, who arrived at the scene of the incident, informed that her 38-year-old daughter had mental health problems and had been receiving treatment at the clinic for almost 10 years.

"She was unwell and tended to keep many belongings in her car as if living in it, but she returned home every day.

"She came home as usual every day. I am shocked by what happened," she said. – February 23, 2026
