We Malaysians are known for our love for all things sweet, but when exactly does it become too sweet for one to take?
Malaysians were left befuddled after a local vendor posted a video about her latest product which cost a whopping RM60.
‘Tricolour Chocolate’ dessert sold for RM60
In a TikTok video posted by Aunty Jah, who’s known for her rather indulgent desserts, it showed her taking out a cup which had three types of chocolate in it before bringing it to her lips to take a sip.
However, she stops and wags a finger in jest to tell viewers that it wasn’t meant to be consumed as a drink, but rather as a dipping sauce.
Aunty Jah then proceeds to dip a stick of marshmallows and brownies into the sauce before eating the chocolate-coated treat.
In the caption, she wrote that each cup, which weighs around 450g, costs RM60 each and the price is for the sauce alone and doesn’t come with any sides.
She also added that she doesn’t encourage anyone to buy the ‘Tricolour Chocolate’ sauce alone, considering its rather high price.
“I understand that it’s quite expensive, and that’s why I’m not producing a large amount of ‘Tricolour Chocolate’.”
‘But why??’
The clip was later reshared to X (formerly Twitter), where netizens questioned why people were still willing to spend on such desserts despite its pricing.
‘Like always. I’m definitely not her targeted customer. Still don’t understand why people wanna buy this.’
‘RM60 PER CUP?? And people actually buy this? Well, no wonder the price of food and goods keep getting more expensive…because the perception that consumers have no problem spending that much for something like this.’
Others raised concern about the health risks associated with consuming desserts with high sugar content.
‘Gross. Way too sweet. Why lah do you encourage this kind of eating habit? Do something useful please.’
‘I don’t really like desserts, but I love dark chocolate. That being said, there’s a fine line that we should not cross when it comes to food. One of the most valuable assets is our health.’
