People discouraged by Penampang Municipal Council’s high parking fees: PKAN

PENAMPANG: Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri Supreme Council Member Dr Edwin Bosi on Monday highlighted public discontent about the exorbitant parking fees imposed by the local authority within the Penampang Municipal Council.

Dr Bosi said he welcomed that the Penampang had been elevated to municipality status but questioned why the new administration of Penampang Municipal Council had imposed exorbitant parking fees?

Advertisement“Why? The municipal first order of business was to impose an exorbitant parking fee. No doubt, the high parking fees disrupt businesses or trading activities, as people feel discouraged and thus avoid going to town.

“I agree that by introducing parking fees, it mitigates the traffic congestion and resolves the lack of parking spaces during peak hours. But the parking fees should be affordable and reasonable,” said the former Kapayan Assemblyman.

Read more He said he had since met and communicated his concern about the exorbitant parking fees to the new President of Penampang Municipal Council, Francis Michael Chong.

“The President has promised good news after the Chinese New Year so I expect him to revise and resolve the parking fees issue within the Penampang Municipality,” he added.

PMC is charging an exorbitant parking fee 75 sen for the first half hour in contrast with the Kota Kinabalu City’s much cheaper rate of 55 sen per half hour.
