PERAK Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, has denied claims that the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) will be dissolved in the near future to make way for the State Election (PRN).

The Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman said that the issue raised in a political analysis by an English-language newspaper on April 5 has never been discussed at the state government level.

“I myself read the article and was quite surprised because this matter has never been discussed on any platform.

“It should be remembered that the procedure for holding a PRN is not an easy one because it requires an audience with the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, for the proposal to dissolve the DUN,” he said.

Saarani was asked to comment on an analysis report that claimed that there was consideration for holding a PRN in Perak as a measure to test the strength of cooperation between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN).

The report also said that Perak could potentially be used as a 'low-risk test' to assess voter support, especially Malays, for the MADANI government, as well as providing an early indication of the larger election results at the national level.

Saarani further commented that if the proposed dissolution of the DUN does not receive the Sultan's approval, then the Menteri Besar will be considered to have resigned.

"I will not appear before the Tuanku to dissolve the house. Furthermore, we still have more than a year to continue the five-year mandate that has been given.

"So personally, there is no possibility of a PRN in Perak," he said. – April 8, 2026
