KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 - Perikatan Nasional (PN) has confirmed that it has received two notices from the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said in a statement today that the notices were issued under subsections 13(2) and 13(2A) of the Societies Act 1966 on Tuesday and Wednesday (Sept 22 and 23) respectively.
“PN takes note of the decision by RoS, but does not agree with the basis of the decision and is taking immediate steps through the legal processes available to defend the objectives of its establishment and its agenda, which is supported by its members and supporters,” he said.
He also called on all members and supporters to remain calm, while issuing an immediate gag order prohibiting any party from making any statement on behalf of PN, except its chairman and secretary-general.
Earlier, in a statement, RoS said the notice issued against PN under subsection 13(2) on Sept 22 is not a decision to cancel the coalition’s registration, but to allow PN to explain a complaint lodged by Bersatu. -
RoS said the notice under subsection 13(2) gives PN a reasonable period to respond, while a suspension order had also been issued under subsection 13(2A), suspending all PN activities with effect from yesterday.
On August 11, RoS confirmed that it had received an official complaint from Bersatu over the party’s allegation that it was excluded from the PN Supreme Council meeting on July 16.
The department said the complaint also touched on issues relating to Bersatu’s membership status in the coalition.
