KANGAR: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department in Perlis recorded seizures totalling RM53.82 million throughout 2025.
Its director, Ismail Hashim, said 147 cases involved goods like cigarettes, alcohol, vehicles, fireworks, and rice valued at RM29.74 million.
Another 20 cases involved narcotics, including cannabis and methamphetamine, amounting to RM24.08 million.
“This achievement reflects JKDM’s continued commitment to strengthen border controls and to cut off smuggling syndicates’ activity chain,” he told a press conference.
He said the department had also seized 13 kilogrammes of cannabis and various non-duty-paid goods worth RM376,000 between January 4 and 14 this year.
The duty and tax involved in those recent seizures amounted to RM205,782.50.
All seizures were carried out around Kangar, including the waters off Kuala Perlis and areas near Padang Besar.
Ismail said the recent cases involved three vehicles with Thai registration plates using expired International Circulation Permits.
All cases are being investigated under the Customs Act 1967 and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
He added that his department would continue to intensify intelligence-gathering and enforcement operations.
